Summer Bucketlist

Happy Summer Solstice! Today marks the first “official” day of summer, and also the longest day of the year, so it is the perfect time to sit and think about what I want to do this summer. We all wait for summer all year long, and I think it is safe to say everyone loves summer! Especially if you have a summer birthday like me (July 23, where my Cancers and Leos at??) and tend to be in celebration mode all summer! I had a pretty boring summer last year, so I am more determined than ever to make this one super fun! I have been here for a year now (exactly a year as of last Saturday!), and so I finally have enough friends and know DC well enough that I can plan some stuff out and really enjoy my summer. Finding Light in a Dark Place

I had no intention of writing or posting about this topic, but seeing the outpour of encouraging words on social media following the very tragic and public suicides of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain (who is a huge idol of mine), it prompted me to speak up about my own depression. I have battled with it on and off my whole life, have at times been medicated for it (seven horrible years on Zoloft to be exact), have seen many therapists, and have come to accept that it is something that I and many people just have to face at different phases of our lives. The last week or two have been especially rough for me, and I am taking this moment of awareness as an opportunity to share my story in the hopes that it helps someone else. Happy first day of June y’all! Anyone else feel like summer came really fast? We literally just got our last snowstorm a couple months ago! Since I was in Israel for most of April, that month flew by, and May was super busy so it went quickly too! Although I am (obviously) elated that it is finally summer – any other summer babies out here? – it also means that the year is halfway over and is forcing me to reflect on the progress of my goals and intentions for the year.
