How To: Start a Weightlifting Routine

I started weightlifting at the end of this past summer, both in preparation for my first winter in 6 years – knowing I would need to move my workouts indoors now that I no longer live in sunny San Diego – and also to switch it up from my usual routine. As someone who has been practicing yoga for over 7 years and teaching it for more than 2 years, I NEVER thought I would be obsessed with weightlifting. I honestly hated the idea of even going to a gym – now I can’t imagine NOT going! In addition, I found that over the last year, I was getting injured more and more in yoga classes from overdoing it and overstretching muscles, and decided that I really needed to build up some muscular strength if I wanted to avoid getting injured constantly. Artist Spotlight: Anderson .Paak

Let me first start off by saying, to call Anderson .Paak my favorite musical artist would be a blatant understatement. In fact, his music has affected my life so intensely, that I can accurately divide it into two eras: pre-AP and post-AP. Not only that, but knowledge—and fandom—of A .Paak (or bae .Paak as I prefer) has essentially become a litmus test through which I judge new friends and acquaintances. DAMN. THING. into a hashtag—these are all quintessential elements of being a millennial. But…

Hello World!

Welcome to my blog! Let’s start with intros: I’ll go first. I’m Alana Reina – yes queen is literally part of my name – and I can do everything! Well, not everything. But I can do a lot of things, and I know A LOT about a lot of things. And since I had a hard time choosing and narrowing it down for my blog, I decided not to! Instead, I will write about all the topics I want, ranging from healthy recipes to reviews of music and concerts. I will do my best to keep it all organized (I am OCD, after all), but as the reader, you are along for the ride on the roller coaster of randomness that is my blog! I hope you enjoy the variety of my posts and my candid of my approach to blogging. I like to tell it like it is: only…
