Setting Myself Up for an Abundant Year: 2021 Reflections and 2022 Intentions

As I am sitting here writing this – four days into the new year, sick with what I think is Covid but can’t confirm due to all the testing sites being booked up and home testing kits being booked up – it doesn’t quite feel like a new year yet. I am still feeling the tentacles of 2021 penetrating my brain, body and spirit! However, it is sunny (albeit freezing) for the first time in over a week, and I am going to take that as a win! I think it’s safe to say that the last couple years have been HARD on all of us. Despite how much 2020 threw us all for a loop, I still somehow managed to accomplish every single one of my goals and escape SOMEWHAT unscathed. But 2021? Man…2021 hit me over the head with a wooden bat, dragged me into a dumpster in…

What Turning 30 Means to Me

Even though I already turned 30 a few weeks ago, I have been reflecting on what changes I have noticed since then. I have felt “older than my age” my whole life, and have DEFINITELY been sick of being in my 20s for a few years now, but I feel like there were subtle shifts that happened the week of my birthday. First of all, I am SUPER excited that I can now proudly say I am 30! Not 28, not 29, but THIRTY! I can now participate in 30+ Twitter threads, give a very valid excuse to boys in their 20s as to why I cannot date them, and also appreciate the shock value after telling my age to people who think I am much younger! What excites me the most is how I am finally able to apply some of the lessons I learned throughout my 20s, namely…

Why I Consider Myself High Maintenance Now (and Think It’s a Good Thing!)

Everyone talks about being high maintenance as a bad thing, and it is something I think most of us – especially women – have internalized. I always prided myself on being low maintenance: go with the flow, not fussy, easy going, etc. For a long time, I believed that those things were necessary in order to be likeable, as well as enjoy my own life. As I get older and get closer to turning 30 this year, I have started to notice different areas of my life where I am more “high maintenance”, and I am not just ok with it, I think it’s a good thing! Let me clarify – more importantly than anything, I am the one maintaining myself, so can’t nobody tell me what’s too high maintenance in the first place! Second, I have realized that a lot of what we consider “high maintenance” in a bad…

How I Accomplished All My Goals in 2020 (and How You Can Do It Too in 2021)

Like everyone else, I am EXTREMELY excited to wave goodbye to 2020! It has challenged us all in ways that no one was prepared for, and despite some positive changes (hello WFH!), I know it has seriously taken a toll on everyone. That being said, I started 2020 with SO much motivation and clarity to get sh*t done – as I do every new year – and was simply determined to get it all done! Because I strongly believe in acknowledging and celebrating your wins, big and small, I am going to go ahead and humble brag! Here is a list of the major things I accomplished this year: Got a job (after 6 months of unemployment) Got a new car (and got my own car insurance for the first time) Got a MacBook AND iPhone (hello MAJOR life upgrades!!!) Moved into my very own studio apartment Got my social…

Can American Jews Celebrate Christmas?

In case you haven’t noticed on my Instagram, I halve been going Christmas CRAZY! I have been decorating, DIY-ing, baking, eating, drinking, watching and listening to anything and EVERYTHING Christmas or holiday themed! I normally get really obsessive over things I like, but I have never been obsessed over Christmas like this. I noticed this year that EVERYONE seems to be more obsessed than usual – people were posting about Christmas before Halloween! – so I at least feel like I am in good company. However, it definitely begs the question: am I *allowed* to be this obsessed with Christmas, as a proud Jew? It is a question I have been thinking and talking about a lot the last few weeks, and while I don’t think there is any singular or correct answer, I thought I would share some of my musings and personal experience here! First of all, I…
