How I Accomplished All My Goals in 2020 (and How You Can Do It Too in 2021)

Like everyone else, I am EXTREMELY excited to wave goodbye to 2020! It has challenged us all in ways that no one was prepared for, and despite some positive changes (hello WFH!), I know it has seriously taken a toll on everyone.

That being said, I started 2020 with SO much motivation and clarity to get sh*t done – as I do every new year – and was simply determined to get it all done! Because I strongly believe in acknowledging and celebrating your wins, big and small, I am going to go ahead and humble brag!

Here is a list of the major things I accomplished this year:

  • Got a job (after 6 months of unemployment)
  • Got a new car (and got my own car insurance for the first time)
  • Got a MacBook AND iPhone (hello MAJOR life upgrades!!!)
  • Moved into my very own studio apartment
  • Got my social work license (LMSW)

For a normal year, those are pretty major accomplishments – but in a PANDEMIC?? Chile! I think I have earned those bragging rights! Trust me, it was not easy! Luckily I got my job and car right before the pandemic – and buying the MacBook and iPhone were a big deal for me but fairly easy – but the last two were certainly challenging! I definitely considered letting my self slide and waiting until next year to cross them off my list, but I am SO glad I didn’t!!

How did I do it, you wanna know? Well honestly, it’s pretty simple: I have an ELITE system of organizing and writing down my goals, intentions and even affirmations every single month, as well as the beginning of the year. I put my list of goals for the year somewhere that I can easily access and refer back to, and my monthly goals/intentions/affirmations are written in the notes section on the side of my wall calendar, which hangs above my desk and is visible EVERY single day.

There is something SO powerful about not only writing down your goals and putting them into the universe, but being able to look at them CONSTANTLY and continuously remind yourself of what you are working toward! Plus, chunking your goals down by month (and then by week, usually in my planner), I am able to break those major goals into smaller objectives that are easy to accomplish. Half the time, I write goals for the month that I KNOW I am going to do, so that I am able to enjoy that sense of accomplishment when I cross it off!

I have been an avid journaler for years, and used to write all my goals in my journal and never look back at it. It definitely served the purpose of getting it in writing, but there is something seriously MAGICAL about having your goals in writing in a place that you will actually look at every day. If you can’t see them, how can you hold yourself accountable??

Regardless of how much you accomplished this year or how you feel about 2020, let’s all make a promise to ourselves to go into 2021 feeling confident, optimistic and motivated about setting new goals for ourselves, and ending 2021 with more accomplishments than we did this year!

For those who have goal setting habits already, comment below what methods you use to keep yourself on track. Everyone else, comment below what strategies you are going to use for hitting those goals in 2021! Hope everyone has a safe and happy new year, and starts off 2021 with only positive energy!!! ✨
