How To: Meditate (and Actually Stick To It!)

If you are reading this blog post, chances are you have read a how-to article about meditation, and feel like every time you read another one, you are even more confused about HOW to actually meditate! That is because there are a million and one ways to actually meditate, with none being better than the next. It really is all about what you prefer, what works for you, and what you are actually going to stick with. I started meditating almost seven years ago, while I was taking a “Psychology & Meditation” course in college. Although I technically learned how to meditate in that class, my interest in meditation had already been piqued enough to register for the class, so the formal course was really just a gateway to me starting my meditation journey. Some of the techniques I learned in that class have stuck with me, and I still…

Fall Reading List 2018

Fall Reading List 2018

Hey guys! It’s been a MINUTE since my last book review, and I have a bunch of books I am dying to tell y’all about! I decided to switch how I do them though: instead of a book review once a month, I’ll compile my fave books from the previous few months into a list of reading recommendations with personalized reviews about each one! Read on to find your new fave. An American Marriage by Tayari Jones This novel starts out normally enough, with a young newlywed black couple spending a night in a hotel room before visiting the husband’s parents the next day. Suddenly, they are ripped apart when the husband is arrested for assaulting a lady in another hotel room, a crime he was falsely accused of, and sent to jail for twelve years. Bitterly reminiscent of our reality with a crippled and deeply flawed justice system, this…

Combining Trends: A Fall Slay (and a Bucket List)

Combining Trends: A Fall Slay (and a Bucket List)

We all woke up Friday to what was supposed to be Fall and feels more like…Winter. WHAT GIVES! I was going on and on about how excited I was for Fall, so I could break out my fall clothes – sweaters, jeans, boots, etc – and instead the temperature dropped 30 degrees literally OVERNIGHT! Normally, Fall entails at least a COUPLE weeks of perfect 70 degree days with sun and zero humidity, which is the perfect recipe for a fall slay that leaves you feeling cute and comfy without freezing your legs off! Nevertheless, I was lucky enough to snap some pics in this cute fall outfit that combines some of my favorite fall trends with a few of my own personal style faves: animal prints/mixed prints, A-line skirt, corduroy, rust orange, an ugly-cute jacket and, of course, my Vans! It sounds like a lot is going on, but I…

Saying Goodbye to Summer and HE-LLO to Fall!

Saying Goodbye to Summer and HE-LLO to Fall!

I don’t know about y’all, but this summer was a ROLLER coaster for me! Since the summer officially started in June, I have gone through a breakup, had a birthday, gotten into multiple blowout fights with my family (that I live with), gone to NYC twice, started a new job, ended that same job, been depressed at least once and also had countless weekends filled with friends and fun. SHEESH! I am exhausted just typing that sentence! Before I get too much into fall planning and looking ahead, I want to reflect on what I have done the last few months. Some of y’all might have read my summer bucket list post a few months ago, so I will go through that and see what I can check off Outdoor concerts and festivals – finally made it to one (Trillectro) on the LAST day of summer! Trip to NYC – twice! Once…

Shea Moisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Line Review

Shea Moisture 100% Virgin Coconut Oil Line Review

I first received products from the 100% Virgin Coconut Oil collection in one of my Sheabassador boxes earlier this year. I got the Rehydration Treatment Masque, which I immediately fell in love with, and a selection of skincare products from this line as well. When I received another product from this line – the Daily Hydration Styling Gel – in my last box, I decided to go all out and purchase the shampoo, conditioner and leave-in spray as well. I can safely say after using these products for several weeks that this line works as well if not BETTER for my hair than the Coconut & Hibiscus line, which for me is the OG curly hair line! I have used tons of natural hair products over the last year plus that I really started taking care of my curls – both Shea Moisture and other brands – and had…
